The Australian National University (https://www.anu.edu.au) is a leading research university located in Canberra, the capital of Australia. Its School of Computing (https://comp.anu.edu.au) conducts research in a broad range of activities, including artificial intelligence and machine learning, computer systems and software, and theoretical foundations of computing. It spans traditional computer science and modern data and computational science. It has a large cohort of over 200 research students, mostly at the level of PhD, both domestic and international students (over 130) from many countries including currently 14 PhD students from Sri Lanka.

In this presentation, Prof Christen will provide a background of the ANU and its School of Computing, and the research areas in the School. He will discuss the research degrees and Higher Degree Research at ANU more generally, including the requirements and how to apply for a PhD at ANU. He will also cover some aspects of living in Canberra, and conclude with an overview of some example research projects that are available for future PhD students.

Prof Christen is an award-winning PhD supervisor with nearly 20 years of experience. He has supervised 8 PhD students from Sri Lanka, including 4 from the University of Colombo. He will be available for questions after his presentation, and can also be contacted via email.
